Prague Sketchbook - Vegeta!
The cartoons have completely taken over now. It seems like the magic of Prague and the appeal for realism has since faded away and now we are back into the world more in line with Robotology1021. For some reason the setting of the year 5956 years later, as random as the numbers may seem, such a huge gap in sum between the timeline of this depicted world and our current world leaves a very open ended article capable of any kind of definition. The illustrations that I did leaves a much more fantasy impression but the few thousands of years ahead allows for ones mind to imagine what kind of history that could have occurred during this period of time. A few thousand years compared to the millions of years of history that our earth has withheld is absolutely nothing but in terms of human affairs it can count for quite a large amount of change. We are always talking about the inevitable destruction of our world in the near future, but when we are offered the idea that the earth is still vibrant and healthy by the year 5956, then it leaves a positive(?) impression on us. At the least if this earth represented in the picture is still inhabited by humans.
As I explained in my previous posting, I really like cliffside residents. This depiction below leaves a very serene and calming impression of a very large and wide spread landscape. The window like formations show evidence of life and the way the clouds are so very close to the cliffs can make one wonder how high up this area is. I was certainly thinking "Castle In the Sky" and "Nausicaa" when I drew this image.
This strange collection of musclemen below makes me wonder what it is that captivates me enough into wanting to draw them at such consistent intervals. I did really like "Dragonball" when I was a child and "Dragonball" was all about the shirtless musclemen screaming at the top of their lungs, sweating out sodium through every pore in their body whilst bursting away energy beams from within their bodies. I remember as a child drawing tonnes and tonnes of muscle men. They were all either warriors or ninjas, and they could all use "Kamehameha's". (Kamehameha: Name of an energy blast technique from "Dragonball") The character below is just a shameless representation of "Vegeta" from the "Dragonball" series, except my version is a very protein heavy, diet conscious "Vegeta" who went a little too heavy on the pound lifting.
I actually really like this figure with the energy building up upon his palms. The energy is emitting light from within an invisible source of energy but its presence is there because of the source of light and shadow that has draped itself around the figure. I quite like this kind of cartoonish drawing style over the super Japanese Anime look with the semi realistic figures, with figure eight proportions.
