Sketchbook 2k9 - Overbearing

A man fights a beast alone. This is no new subject matter for me. This is by far my favorite type of image, where the underdog is putting up against an overwhelming situation. This drawing was very gestural and the drawing happened very quickly but I thought I was pretty successful in representing the distance between the two subjects. The distance allows the viewer to guess how large the thing in the background could be. The unshaded background are could be viewed as the clouds and the area with the gradient in the background could be viewed as the sea. The result of the battle will never unfold but I would like the leave the rest up to the viewers to imagine.
