Barry Mcgee Exhibit @ Perrotin HK
Barry Mcgee has his own Wikipedia page, so he is pretty much a pretty big name artist. When I was in Chicago back in 2004, Barry Mcgee was a really big name, at least among my peers. I cannot remember how I was introduced to this artist, but his style of portraiture is very memorable.
Elements of graffiti and Californian cartoon, comic influences are pretty noticeable throughout Mcgee's artworks, and there are some elements of pattern work and graphic design work. There are some snippets of Frank Stella style, blocked out line work.
Honestly, Barry Mcgee's artwork isn't the most influential for my taste, but his artwork is colorful and fun, so I had a lot of fun viewing this exhibit.
