Banksy Exhibition @ Portal 6601 - Kowloon Bay

I've never been a big fan of protest related art or even Banksy for that matter, but I do respect his deep understanding about the art world and his sarcastic responses to it. You can see it from his work that he is very aware about his surroundings, and he does a great job in communicating his ideas to a mass audience. He has definitely forged a strong path into the world of high art, but his stance is still with the world of low brow art. It seems like he is always in tune with the social issues around the world, and he tries to respond in ways that are not too complex, but very cheeky.

The overall exhibition was on the expensive side; maybe the most expensive paid exhibition that I had ever visited, but the experience was well worth the price. There were plenty of artworks to digest, and the space was curated accordingly to Banksy's aesthetics of 'graffiti-centric,' police controlled themes. It was also an interesting exhibit because of the current political climate of Hong Kong being so contentious; especially against it's government, and police. Even at the area outside the exhibition space where the visitors were able to write freely on the walls; there were a fair number of explicit comments protesting the current government, and it's actions.

I don't know if this was just a coincidence, or it was preordained, but the timing was great and the exhibition itself felt much more meaningful, and inspiring.
